The New York Times just published their “52 Places to go in 2019”

so I couldn’t help comparing that list to my proposed travel plans for 2019.

I scrolled through their list quickly, making notes:

Already Been:

Perth, Tahiti, Houston, Danang, Las Vegas, New York City, Orcas Island, Los Angeles, Wyoming, Santa Barbara.

Ok, about 15% of the list, I thought, not too bad.

Want to go:

Croatia, Chile, Puglia, Italy,  Aberdeen, Scotland, Lyon, France, Hong Kong.

These places are on my list, but not for 2019.

Never heard of but intrigued:

Frisian Islands in the Netherlands region, and Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

These might make my list for someday….

Probably Won’t Get to:

I hate saying I won’t ever get to a place, but I have to start being realistic. I am not this guy (although I did meet Mr. Parrish last year and he is perfectly nice).

Places from this list I probably won’t get to:  Gambia, Tunis, Uzbekistan.

Will Get Close This Year:

I won’t see the Falkland Islands but I do plan to see South Georgia Island in November as part of our Antarctica Penguin Safari cruise.

(If you want to go to Antarctica and South Georgia this year, our cruise might be right for you! For more information email me at heirloomvacations@gmail.com Subject line: Antarctica!)

I’m planning to visit the Cinque Terre in June, so that is near  Golfo Paradiso.

We also have an amazing trip to New Zealand on the calendar, (more about that later) and we”ll be near the new Paparoa Track.

Close counts, right?

My 2019 Domestic Travel

This year I have hopes to complete travel in all 50 states. With four to go: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas, we are

thinking about a late summer-early fall road trip.

On the road

I have several return destinations planned: Taos, NM, Beaver Creek, CO, Las Vegas, New York, Florida, Los Angeles, a combination of family and business trips.

I’m looking forward to both the new and familiar places to visit, as we always see something new, and we have a chance to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

Right now there are a few months with no travel planned, so that gives me the flexibility to jump on something closer in, rather than planning trips months (and even a year) out.

The New York Times list creates some travel envy for me, as there are just so many places out there and not that much time (and resources) to see them.

How do you relate to the “52 Places to Go in 2019” list? Where are you planning to travel this year? Add your ideas to the Comments.
