Wander Wednesday

“Not all those who wander are lost.”- J.R.R. Tolkien

The Covid-19 pandemic prevented us from traveling the world the way we used to. While I am not advocating that you travel now, if you choose to travel, please heed government guidelines for health and safety. Be sure to check the health situation in the place you are going and be prepared with appropriate supplies. Remember the health measures that you take to protect yourself also protect those around you! If you can’t travel now, you can still dream about where to go when you can!

This month I’m showing photos of  interesting places related to special November days.

stone memorial in France

November 11 is Veteran’s Day, originally called “Armistice Day,” to commemorate the end of WWI. During the ’50s, with another World War and the Korean War having put soldiers in combat, the holiday was changed to honor all veterans, living and dead. This is one of the few U.S. national holidays to be officially celebrated on its original day, not moved to a Monday holiday observance. We thank our troops around the world for doing their best to protect us.

This photo is the memorial on Omaha Beach, in Normandy, France, the site of the D-Day Invasion of Allied Forces on June 6, 1944 to liberate France from German occupation during WWII.  You can visit many of the battlefields and the military cemeteries in this region.
