Hello 2025! We’re looking forward to another year of getting out there and seeing the world!
There are many reasons to travel, and one of them must be to see new things, meet new people, have new experiences, and try new foods!
This month’s photos are about the “new” I’ve experienced while traveling.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy New Year!
Wander Wednesday
“Not all those who wander are lost.”- J.R.R. Tolkien
I love Venice, Italy. I love the history going back 1200 years, the narrow streets, the canals, and the bridges, just to name a few of my favorites. Venice might be slowly sinking into the sea, but it is still vibrant and lively, as the millions of tourists will attest. There are plenty of places where normal life happens: kids going to school and the sports gym, shoppers buying vegetables from the weekend markets (although the markets are on boats), people walking their dogs in the parks and hanging laundry out to dry when it’s sunny.
It may seem as if things are always the same here, but on my recent visit I did notice something new. There are ramps up and over many of the canals, right next to the permanent bridges. How much easier for people delivering goods, for people who have trouble with stairs, and, yes, for those tourists dragging luggage to and from their hotels. This project started a few years ago, and now has quite a few bridges over various canals. While these bridges aren’t beautiful to look at, they are sturdy and greatly appreciated!
