Darwin is definitely worth a few days before or after a Kimberley cruise, or when visiting Aboriginal lands. This small tropical port city has a lot going for it, especially with Pan-Asian cuisine (Darwin is closer to Jakarta and Singapore than Sydney and Melbourne) and captivating street art. There’s even a street art festival every year to highlight new talent. We took a foodie walking tour that was a great introduction to the wide variety of cuisines here.
